looks like I found the information I was looking for. I appreciate your listing your plans and giving some details, this will really give me a good starting point and help me to know a little more about what to do. Now I am not so afraid to attempt building.

no problem... since i have built my winch at least 2 dozen other people have used my plans in building their winch and have had great results... it is a tried and true method but dont be afraid to come up with your own thing and bring something new to winching... it is always exciting to see something new

Thanks for the help! My friend and I are going to use your guide to build our own winch! Ill let you know how it turns out, and I will ask for help when needed, if that's ok!
By the way is that a yamaha ttr125 or yz250 in the background of one of your photos? I used to ride a ttr125

Also could you list out all the parts invloved - how many teeth on sprockets etc - if it aint broke dont fix it - so we're gonna build one based on your design
