yes the chains sounds a bit, but there going to be walls around it so i belive that will get the noise down a little bit

Nice, that thing is truly impressive. I can't wait for you to try it out.
I was wondering though if it is possible to find an inverter powerful enough for this motor? Just curious because I think it would be nice to have something like that handy if you found a spot with an electrical outlet close by. You know, like a module that would sit where the batteries would usually go. It would be a cool option if you ever decided to make this thing commercial or something. For pool jams and stuff...

thanx, well the project went little more massive than i first thought. But when its finnished, i will be a happy winch rider
painting it this week
I realy like your inverter idea, And of course it will work...
If there is enough power in this battery pack for a full day of intensive riding, I see no reason to make it,
But if there not is enough power, i think i will make the inverter.
It may be used in some james, but only if someone call me... I am not going comersial with this winch... only reason for building this winch was for me to learn the kickflip by myself ^_^
But if someone else is going to build a e-winch thats one good thing to keep in mind...

halt,
i have to tell you that i've been using my e-winch all summer so far. we get a pretty thorough afternoon off of one charge - maybe 30-40 runs. and i used only 4 small lawnmower batteries (total weight 58 pounds). I will say the chain is pretty noisy - i'be been thinking about installing a belt since i feel like i've finally really dialed in the gearing. I think with your optima batteries you are going to be able to get 100 pulls between charges.
bummed to hear that you aren't going commercial with your winch - it really seems like the best of everything. i have considered trying to sell my version - but i've been too busy to find a waterjetter to cut things nicely for me. i'd love to see some video of that beast pulling you though...

me too =)
dubble pulley idea:
the pulleyn closest to winche are there to reduce lateral pressure on the movable guide.
The spool is very close to the walls, so I dont whant any loose rope on the spool whip around in there.
The second pulley is attached to an arm which flexes with the help of a rubber band.
it will help to reduce the slack on the spool.
so when there is slack on the rope, the front pullyn will catch up the slack, and while the rope is a bit more tensed between rider and the winch.
less water contact with the rope is better.
a good side effect is that the sipping and water splashing out before it enters the winch
did some tests on my old winch with a tensing system, and it helps to reduce slack

so finaly did the first water test. So fucking smooth! nearly every thing worked as I hoped.
Always same aceleration, always super strong, always right speed, newer any jumps in speed, the "line tense" system worked even better than i hoped, the rope gets super tight on the spool. and it helps to get smother ride to. easy unwind. it breaks good. Itś like riding behind a boat. =)
things that wasn't so good was.
its still a 2 man winch, but we will make a 1-man winch out of it as planed, in a few month, (many things going on beside this project, steeling time from me).
its a little bit more noisy than i thought, but still much more quiet than a gas winch. you can't hear the winch while you ride.
The worst thing was that one of the bearings broke down after 10 full pulls, so now we need to rebuild it to make it stronger...
dont have any clip from it yet... but i will post a clip sometime in the near future.
