I still don't really get what you are doing with the rope.. on the last drawing it shows the line not going into the winch.. so how about that than?

I'll see if i can do a decent illustration of it tonight. Anyway, the idea is not to have a captive spool, just a sort of capstan winch which pulls it through and spits the rope out on the ground.

This is because
1. Normal winch Spools tend to take a lot of space
2. Speed accelerates along with wound up diameter.
3. Would be easier to walk back with the rope, without the resistance of the spool and motor.
4. Now that ive actually had the possibility to wakeskate behind a winch, I wasnt a big fan of the 'skipping' the wound up rope does on the spool when tension is created.. Is this something other winchers experience?

okay you have some good arguments for doing so.. but I think (and almost know for sure out of own experience..) that when the line is just being spit on the ground, you will get big knots. I had one recently, my rope broke somewhere in the middle. we had the remaining rope on the ground while fixing the rope. after that, it was a very big knot!.

Spools mostly are pretty big I agree.. but they really don't have to be! if you get a thin line that the outer diameter of the spool doesn't have to be that much bigger than the inner.

I wonder if you ever get to actually make the winch and how it will perform!

it does, kinda.. but still... I think that having the rope pile up on the ground next to the winch will get you in big trouble.. especially when you use dyneema because that is very thin.

My instructor advice me to buy no to have it my own. Because if you make it your own, you will acquire more time and you would not recognize, you are having a difficult time creating your thesis just because of doing that winch.

and....you're an idiot

Working my butt off, so I can hopefully start building a model soon. I'll see if I can get a rendering up now some day.

On another note, found a pretty sweet UK company which do this kind of electric motor-package for gliders.
http://yuneeccouk.site.securepod.com/paramotor_overview.html

They have some strong ass motors too! Bet it could be used for both winches and cables, but it probably costs an arm and a leg.

Edit: I think that shanerrfellow is a spambot btw.
Need to get a spambuster in here.

Still a lot of details on the legs and electronic housing to figure out.
Playing around with rendering & colors.

Yeah, i think it looks a bit taller than it really is. The sitting surface is about 450 mm above ground. Theres still some proportions to deal with though, because as of now it looks tiny in 1:1 size.

Yes, that's me btw. I'm 180cm tall. (Take it all in boys, it's a package)

Good news though, the spool idea seemed to work well. Made a sketchmodel to try it out.

Ya I was about to say the same thing that vincentmdr said, it looks like it would have a tendency to pull over and do a face plant. But maybe not, as long as you kept your weight towards the back when you were sitting on it.

it did seem larger in that first rendering. but still.. if the boarder comes straight at the winch it will be no problem, but if he would come in at an angle than it might flip over.
I think that the fairlead should be closer to the ground, making your center gravity lower.
