Post idling speed? Reply with quote
i am just finishing up my new winch and one problem i am finding is as soon as i start up the motor, the clutch is engaging. we are running a 9hp honda clone with a cc. you can get the clutch to slip (just) by jamming a piece of wood against the edge of the spool but we shouldnt have to do this? if anyone can help on how to adjust the idle speed or anything else that may be going wrong it would be greatly appreciated.
ps. i will get some pics up of the build when its all done Very Happy
thanks. Jack

to me it sounds like there is something wrong with your clutch.. when the engine is running at idle, the clutch should not engage!

perhaps idle speed is set too high. you can adjust it with a phillips screw. Mines adjusted just to the point where it wont die.

ok so we worked out why it wasnt idling. it was because where the carby sits onto the head the gasket wasnt pressed in (the clearance was out by about 3mm!) so we fixed that up.
next problem whenever you start the motor up cold you need to give it some revs for it to start. this in turn makes the spool spin.
how does evryone stop it spinning while starting it? also what brakes are people using? i have found a few on a go kart sites but they are very expensive.
thanks again

before you start the engine, pull out the rope a few feet and have a friend hold it while you start the engine.

i was thinking about doing that but didnt know if there would be too much load on the hand causing it to get ripped out of their hand and destroying the fairlead?
thanks again

Post Hydraulic Brake Assemblies... Reply with quote
We've got full hydraulic brake assemblies that we're running on our Pro Model winches. I could hook you up with one of those for about $60.00 shipped. It includes about 40" of brake line with the caliper and pads, and also includes the brake lever and the master cylinder is attached to the lever. Very simple, it's all in one piece bled and everything, ready to mount.

Email us through the site if you need one.

Later,

for the bike brake i bought a weld on hub from princess auto which fits on the keyed shaft then drilled and taped the 6 hole that the disc bolts to. if you want pics just ask
