I once had one of those floaty ball things at the end of my rope by the handle. Saw it shoot up like a bottle rocket when the winch driver forgot to let off the throttle.

another thread suggested to disconnect the handle if it gets to close.
That is acctually easily done with an old kite release. All you would need is a SS metal pin with an eye in the end. a plastic ball and you would be all good.
I agree that a friend that properly understand how to operate the machine is key. But one can never be to safe
Think I'm gonna try it out at some point to see if it works well.
cheers

B-Nasty... Nearly a year later.....how is this winch holding up? I was also wondering how well that clutch worked out and how long?
I am starting a frame build soon and I think I will be forced to go with the CC for now as $ is an issue. I know I will burn a CC up eventually, but the accountant (my wife) is not taking the potential cost of this build well. If I can get the winch built and running, she will see how sick it is and will be totally onboard for a TAV upgrade later. I weigh around 175lbs, I think a CC should work for a little while. What clutch is that you are using (model #)?
